I returned from Borneo last week, where I guided a very successful expedition for Natural Habitat Adventures. As always, we had many wildlife highlights, including some amazing sightings of seven species of primates. I got some particularly good footage of a mother and baby orangutan at Sepilok, and some extremely close up opportunities (10 feet) with red leaf monkeys at tree top level from the open air bar at Borneo Rainforest Lodge.
I put these together and threw in a few more clips of gibbons and Slow Loris from last fall. If you like primates, check it out here!

A female orangutan brings her 8 month old baby daughter to the supplemental feeding platform at Semengoh Orangutan Rehab Center near Kuching, Sarawak, Borneo. The rehab centers are great places to get up close encounters with orangutans.
This is Ritchie, the enormous alpha male orangutan at Semengoh.
At Bako National Park, near Kuching, we had a great encounter with a troop of Silver leaf monkeys, also known as silver langurs. The leaf monkeys have specialized multi-chambered stomachs to help them digest the cellulose in leaves.
At Sepilok we were awarded another excellent session with a female orang and her 7 month old baby. We were very fortunate, as this doesn’t happen every day!

We always have amazing experiences with wild orangutans in the Danum Valley. This is the monster alpha male of the area named Ali Baba. He was feeding on a fruiting fig tree, also used by binturong, many birds and several other orangutans during our stay.
Borneo is my favorite place to guide right now. There are so many different highlights – frogs, insects, birds, elephants, sun bears… But it is the orangutans and other primates which are the most well known attention-getters. Gosh Brad-your photos are ALMOST as good as the video I took about 20 years ago!! Just kidding-they are great and the sounds certainly bring back floods of memories! Keep going, love watching it on the computer now.
